In a tragic incident, a 46 year old labourer died after falling from a hillock while carrying out grouting work at dam side of 390 MW Dul Hasti Power project, some 20 kms from Kishtwar.

A father of four including three daughters identified as Abdul Qayoom son of Imam Din resident of Darmund Batote died while executing work of grouting at Dul.

Police sources said that the incident took place at around 1 pm on Thursday when the deceased was working at the dam site to fill up the rocks with concrete. “Around 12:45 pm when the deceased was working on the hillock, the electricity supply broke down. The co-labourer asked him to come down.

While coming down, the deceased slipped and fell from about 200 feet height and died on the spot.

“The other labourers immediately rush to the spot and found the deceased in a pool of blood. He was dead.”

Later the dead body was shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar for autopsy.

Kishtwar police has registered a case while the body was handed over to the family members for burial.

Various labour unions have demanded inquiry in to the incident.

President Contractors Association Kishtwar, Tanveer Ahmed Mintoo, said that the deceased labour was insured and assured that his association will ensure that the deceased family will get all the benefits for which he was entitled to. He along with others expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic death of the labourer and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul and place for him heaven beside courage to the family members to bear the irreparable loss.
