SRINAGAR: The Ladakh Administration has approved the creation of new engineering divisions across the Union Territory as part of an administrative reform aimed at accelerating development works and strengthening governance at the grassroots level, officials said.
According to the administration, the restructuring includes the establishment of seven Public Works Department (PWD) divisions, including five divisions under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), and four divisions under the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Irrigation and Flood Control (I and FC) departments in the newly created districts.
The move is intended to ensure that every district has a full complement of engineering staff, enabling the decentralisation of engineering works and improving the execution of infrastructure and public service projects.
Officials said aligning the engineering divisions with the newly created district boundaries would remove administrative and jurisdictional constraints, facilitate better project planning and expedite the implementation of developmental schemes at the district level.
The administration said the decision is aimed at improving administrative efficiency, enhancing public service delivery and ensuring that development projects are implemented more effectively across Ladakh.
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh said the reform reaffirms the Union Territory Administration’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance and bringing public services closer to the people.
