SRINAGAR: A Delhi court on Monday granted permission to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to cremate or otherwise dispose of the mortal remains of 11 people killed in the devastating car bomb explosion near the Red Fort in November last year.

Special Judge Pitambar Dutt also allowed the agency to dispose of the body parts of Dr Umer Un Nabi, the driver of the explosive-laden vehicle who died in the suicide attack.
While allowing the plea, the court directed that the biological remains be disposed of with full dignity and in accordance with the religious beliefs of the victims. It also asked the NIA to submit a compliance report after carrying out the process.
The NIA informed the court that all required forensic examinations of the victims’ remains and Nabi’s body parts had been completed. The agency had sought permission to dispose of the remains, stating they had begun decomposing.
The blast, caused by a high-intensity improvised explosive device (IED), ripped through the area near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025, killing 11 people and injuring several others.
On May 14, the NIA filed a 7,500-page chargesheet in the case. Last month, it submitted a supplementary chargesheet against three additional accused, including an absconding paediatrician alleged to be the founding member of the terror module behind the attack. With the latest filing, the total number of chargesheeted accused has risen to 13, including the deceased suicide bomber, Dr Umer Un Nabi.
