Locals from central Kashmir’s Budgam district Wednesday alleged that incumbent legislator from Budgam constituency has been pressurizing District Magistrate to close down two Anganwadi centres “duly approved by the government”.

“National Conference legislator has his own interests and wants to accommodate his own people. He is pressurizing District Magistrate Budgam to wind up at least 2 approved Anganwadi Centres. The legislator demands fresh survey so that he can accommodate his own people,” a delegation from Budgam told CNS.

“A District official informed us that District Magistrate has verbally directed him to close down two Anganwadi centres. However, the said officer informed DM Budgam that he can do it only if he receives a written order in this regard. This is injustice towards us. How can District Magistrate on the behest of NC legislator close down approved Anganwadi centres. We appeal concerned Minister to look into the matter,” they said.

Despite repeated attempts, MLA Budgam could not be contacted.
