Chairman Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra on Tuesday adjourned house for half an hour after he refused allowing an adjournment motion over the revelations made by former army chief General V K Singh. Former soldier had accused that the defence sources have been funding the political class for the stability of the state.

As the Council started its second meeting of the session, opposition members including PDP and Panthers Party were on their legs seeking discussion on the issue. Chairman maintained throughout that he has disallowed the motion.

“I want to know my status. Am I the agent of the IB, the RAW or the army,” Naeem Akhter, the spokesman lawmaker of the PDP said. “The revelations have pointed fingers towards this house.”

Entire opposition was seeking a discussion including the Panthers Party which is the party of Haqeeqat Singh, the man whose NGO was the main recipient of the army funds.

After the house was prevented from functioning for half an hour, the opposition walked out. Though at the same time the house on the request of treasury benches hinted at permitting a debate, the opposition stayed away. Malhotra eventually adjourned the house.
