SRINAGAR

Police Tuesday said five to eight militants trapped in the Sathri forest are probably led by LeT commander, Abu Qasim, who recently escaped unhurt after killing SI Altaf Dar in Bandipora.

Earlier, an encounter broke out in Sathri Bandipora between militants and a joint party of SOG and army.

Acting on a tip-off, the joint party of SOG and army cordoned off Sathri and launched search operation. This, police official said, triggered a firing, beefing reinforcement to the area.

It is pertinent to mention here that Abu Qasim is a prized catch for police and security agencies, wanted for Udhampur attack. He is also on NIA radar and carries a bounty of Rs 20 lakh on his head.
