In the late evening brief exchange of firing between army and suspected militants in North Kashmir’s Bandipora, a body of Lashkar-i-Toiba (LeT) militant has been found from the encounter site.

A grenade was hurled at army at Ajas following which army resorted to aerial firing creating panic in the area.

Media reports quoting army and police sources said that immediately after grenade attack, an encounter sued between forces and suspected militants.

The slain militant has been identified as Umais Ahmad Sheikh from Pulwama district in South Kashmir, police said.

Reports said that Umais had joined LeT earlier this year and was also involved in rifle snatching incident from sub-district hospital Pulwama.

Umais was a college student and a resident of Chatpur area of Pulwama.

No rifle was found the dead body, reports added.

When contacted, Jammu and Kashmir Police spokesperson told Kashmir Life that the deceased has been identified by his family. However, he added, “there is no information available whether any ammunition was found near the body or not.”
