SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir BJP General Secretary and Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Sunday attended a tribute event organised by the Deep Kamal Foundation in Bandra, Mumbai, to mark Balidan Diwas of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
Speaking at the event, Sharma said Dr Mukherjee’s actions and decisions continue to influence political and public discourse. He said that Dr Mukherjee’s role remains relevant in ongoing discussions on national policy and governance.
Sharma thanked the organisers for the invitation and said the occasion served as a reminder of Dr Mukherjee’s contributions to national integration. He said the principles associated with Dr Mukherjee are often cited in political and legislative contexts, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the event, Sharma also acknowledged Jyoti Bhai Nayak, mother of Murali Nayak, who died during Operation Sindhur. He said such families remain part of public memory for their association with individuals who participated in military operations.
Maharashtra’s Minister for Information Technology, Ashish Shelar, also spoke at the event. He referred to Dr Mukherjee’s role in the debate on Article 370 and described his actions as part of the larger political process that shaped the region’s legal status.
The event concluded with remarks from party leaders on continuing engagement with the ideas associated with Dr Mukherjee’s political career. (KNO)
