SRINAGAR:  Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said a man impersonating as an official of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) was held from Pampore area.

Man identified as Mohammad Amin Wani resident of Zafron Colony Panthachowk Impersonating As Anti-Corruption Bureau Official Arrested

A police spokesman in a statement said that acting swiftly on a complaint received from a person belonging to village Dadsara Awantipora that one person stopped him while he was driving a car near Toll Plaza Awantipora and introduced himself as Anti-Corruption Bureau Official.

The spokesman said that the said person had searched the complainant’s car and taken his phone number.

“Later on during evening hours the said person called the complainant on phone with the intention to extort money from him,” said the spokesman.

“Upon the said complaint Police Awantipora identified the person as Mohammad Amin Wani resident of Zafron Colony Panthachowk and arrested the person from Pampore Area,” he said.

“Case FIR number 164/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Awantipora,” he added.

“Police Awantipora requests community members to share any such information to concerned Police Stations strict action under law shall be taken against the person involved in such criminal activities,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
