SRINAGAR: A man was injured in a bear attack in the Behak-Natiyan area of Boniyar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, officials said.
The injured has been identified as Mohd Shareef Sheikh, a resident of Tirkanjan Kangdyal. He sustained injuries after being attacked by a bear in the forested Behak-Natiyan area.
Officials said local Army personnel rushed to the spot, provided first aid to the injured, and assisted in evacuating him to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Boniyar.
After receiving initial treatment at the PHC, doctors referred Sheikh to the Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla for specialised treatment.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing human-wildlife conflict in the region, with residents of villages located near forest areas urging authorities to take measures to minimise such encounters and ensure public safety. (GNS)
