SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced the formation of a high-powered task force, headed by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, to recommend reforms aimed at making India’s examination system more reliable, transparent and technology-driven.
In a video message shared on X, the Prime Minister said the committee would submit its recommendations to the government, which would then be used to strengthen the credibility of future examinations.
“For the future of students, the Government of India is continuously taking several steps. Those who played with the future of students are rotting in jails. We have set up fast-track courts, and we are moving forward with a new law in Parliament that will include strict legal provisions,” Modi said.
He stressed the need to restore public confidence in the examination process following recent controversies over paper leaks.
“Our examination system should be reliable, transparent and make maximum use of technology. Keeping this in mind, a high-powered task force under the leadership of world-renowned technology expert Nandan Nilekani has been constituted. Based on its report, we will take steps to ensure the reliability of upcoming examinations,” the Prime Minister said.

The announcement comes a day after protests over examination paper leaks concluded following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
According to the government, the task force will focus on both technological interventions and structural reforms to improve examination systems across the country.
Besides Nilekani, the panel includes former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman S Somanath, former Intelligence Bureau director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras director V Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
Nilekani, who co-founded Infosys and later served as the founding chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), has played a key role in developing India’s digital public infrastructure. Through the eGov Foundation and the EkStep Foundation, he has also worked on technology-driven initiatives in governance and education.
The government expects the panel’s recommendations to help build a more secure, transparent and technology-enabled examination framework for future competitive and academic examinations.
