The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Friday quashed the Public Safety Act (PSA) against senior resistance leader and Muslim League incarcerated chief, Masarat Alam Bhat.

Masarat was released from jail after around 54 months in March this year only being rearrested 40 days later when he attended a rally to receive Hurriyat (g) chairperson Syed Ali Geelani. Geelani was on his way home from New Delhi where he had spent his winter months.

After being rearrested, Masarat Alam was again slapped with PSA and shifted to Kotbalwal jail in Jammu.

Muslim League spokesperson, Rafiq Ganaie, said, “Farooq Ahmad Bhat, who is uncle of Masarat Alam had filed a Petition in High Court decision of which was finally pronounced today.”

“Justice Hasnain Masoodi quashed the PSA on Alam and directed his release,” he said adding, “Advocate Mian Qayoom was fighting the case.”
