Massive but peaceful protests were held in Bareangan, Pathribal area in south Kashmir on Friday to remember the five civilians who were killed “in a fake encounter by army in 2000” according to CBI investigation.

Reports said that hundreds of people gathered after Friday prayers at the graveyard of the deceased and offered joint prayers in their favour.

People raising anti-India slogans were furious against army which closed the Pathribal case recently. “We simply demand justice,” said a protester.

The protesters later dispersed peacefully.

Meanwhile JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested following protests in Maisuma over the army’s closure of Pathribal fake encounter case.

Malik along with his followers began to march towards Lal Chowk but he was arrested by police.

In the old city areas of Nawhatta and Rajouri Kadel, also people held protests after Friday prayers against the army verdict about Pathribal case. Police in order to disperse the protesters used canes and tear smoke shells.
