According to Goa police a Japanese tourist was raped by a Srinagar resident in August 2013 and an FIR regarding it is lodged in Goa.
Quoting, Goa police inspector, Paresh Naik Agencies reported that the Japanese tourist in her complaint has said that she was afraid of filing a complaint in Jammu and Kashmir so she chose to file a complaint in Goa.
“We have filed a zero FIR and it has already been transferred to police in Kashmir. It is up to them to investigate the case now,” Inspector has reportedly said.
But Kashmir police said that they are totally unaware about the situation. “No, we do not know anything about any such complaint with Goa Police,” police spokesman told Kashmir Life.
But in her complaint with Goa police, the victim has reportedly said the sexual assault occurred in August 2013 while she was holidaying in Kashmir.
According to sources a zero FIR allows travelling victims of a crime to register their complaint at a police station outside the jurisdiction of the scene of the crime. On registration, the case is then transferred to the police station under whose jurisdiction the crime was committed.
Reports said that the complaint says that the alleged rapist had posed as a trekking guide and had taken Rs 20,000 from her for an excursion during which he sexually assaulted her.
