According to the order, the directive is in line with public health and sanitation norms under the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act, 2000. It aims to ensure that the display and handling of meat are not visible to the public, particularly in market areas and public streets.

The order reads that this measure is intended to maintain hygienic conditions, protect public sensibilities, especially in areas frequented by children, tourists, and the general public—and uphold civic aesthetics while promoting responsible trade practices. The installations must be completed within 15 days from the date of the order.

Failure to comply within the given period will lead to action under relevant provisions of the Municipal Act. This may include penalties, sealing of premises, or suspension of the trade licence. Meat shop owners are also directed to follow all other applicable sanitary and licensing norms. Any violation will invite further legal and administrative action. (JKNS)
