A group of people staged protest in press enclave on Thursday against the death of a pregnant lady, Mehmooda, 24, a native of Chettergam on the outskirts of Srinagar. The protestors alleged that the lady along with her unborn baby was killed due to the ‘negligence of medicos’ at Sub-District hospital Chettergam.

The relatives of the deceased lady told Kashmir Life that she was admitted in the sub-district hospital at around 10 am on Wednesday morning where her condition was said to be stable. “Doctors referred her to Srinagar’s LD hospital at 9 pm in the evening where she was declared dead,” Rehana, Mehmooda’s sister-in-law said.

The family members of Mehmooda have registered a complaint at Chadoora Police Station against the doctor who treated her at Sub-District Hospital.

“She was being treated by one Doctor, who escaped after we staged protests last night outside the hospital,” Rehana said.

Despite repeated attempts from Kashmir Life, the accused doctor couldn’t be contacted.

The deceased was a mother of two children and was married to one Tasaduq Hussain six years back at the age of 18.

Meanwhile two separate inquires have been initiated to probe the mishap. Chief Medical Officer Budgam Dr Gurgeet Singh has said that District administration has constituted an enquiry committee headed by executive magistrate and has asked it to submit the report within Five days.

CMO further said that the death of the infant was caused in the womb due to cardiac arrest.

Another enquiry committee has been set up by the health department after the intervention of local MLA Javid Mustafa Mir who hold a parallel enquiry into the incident.
