Five police men were injured in the violent protests which erupted in the Maisuma area of the city on Thursday against not allowing JKLF chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik to distribute relief among the earthquake victims in Chinab Valley.

Malik was arrested and ‘forced’ to return to Srinagar from Doda.

As the news of arresting and returning Malik reached Maisuma, the young protesters came out on streets amidst shutdown and started shouting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.

The police swung into action and tried to chase the protesters away who retaliated by pelting stones on police.

Police and forces later used tear smoke shells against the protesters resulting in chaos and tension in the area.

Police sources told Kashmir Life that five men in uniform were injured due to the stones pelted by protesters. They added that police arrested one youngster who was pelting stones on police.
