For the first since the day former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed breathed his last and was laid to rest in his native home town of Bijbehara, Peoples Democratic Party president, Mehbooba Mufti came out of her residence and had a dinner meeting with her party men.
Mufti died on Thursday (Jan 07, 2015) in AIIMS, New Delhi. Today was his customary ‘Chahrum’ and Fateha was held at Bijbehara and Fairview residences, respectively in the day.
Insiders in the party told Kashmir Life that Mehbooba Mufti joined the meeting where PDP lawmakers and senior members were present at her Fairview residence around 7 PM this evening.
It was first interaction since Thursday.
In an emotionally charged atmosphere, Mehbooba spoke to her party leaders while reminding the leadership of late Mufti. “Mehbooba Ji sought forgiveness on behalf of her late father if, anyway, we were hurt by late Mufti,” one of the participants of the meeting said. “This changed the whole atmosphere as participants broke down and Mehbooba Ji could not hold herself.”
A few of the PDP leaders spoke on the occasion. While paying tributes to late Mufti, they hailed his contribution to J&K. The meeting ended with a joint dinner.
However, Mehbooba Mufti, sources added, didn’t talk anything about new government formation. “Nothing was discussed about the government formation,” they added.
The sources informed that the party members assured all support to Mehbooba as their leader.
Mehbooba also thanked the civil and police administration for making all the arrangements in emergency after Mufti’s death.
The PDP-BJP coalition government ceases to exist in J&K as CM left this world. On Saturday evening, Governor rule was imposed in J&K while Mehbooba had refused to take oath as CM after her father died.
