SRINAGAR

Terming the continuous state repression in Palhalan as unwarranted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has said brute force has become the only weapon before the rulers to muzzle the voices of people.

In a statement issued to KNS, she expressed her concern over the continuous harassment of youth by police and other security agencies that has resulted in a fear psychosis like situation in the entire habitation.  She said the people in the village have been deliberately forced to live the life under constant siege for a quite long time now, and it speaks hard about the insensitivity of the rulers and the cruelty they resort to.

Mehbooba said it was senseless approach of the government, which has left the people in the area agitated and the coercive measures resorted to by the rulers in an unsuccessful effort to quell the dissent has vitiated the whole atmosphere there, instead of solving the issues.

She said the government has not been allowing any economic activity happening in Palhalan and the young boys have been again forced to go underground to escape the wrath of security forces.

Demanding complete withdrawal of forces from the area, she said there were some deaths in suspicious circumstances there and they have not been even probed. And the continuous victimization of the inhabitants depicts a typical National Conference story which has been thriving on the uncertainty.
