The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has entertained a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed against the functioning of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura.

The PIL Number 22 of 2013 has been filed by an NGO (KEHMIL) regarding the alleged messy affairs of health care at the prestigious tertiary care hospital of the state leading to more than 5650 death in last less than 2 years.

The petitioner NGO was represented by its president Azad Hussain Peer. After the permission granted by the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir, the PIL was taken up for hearing today before a division bench comprising of Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice Tashi Sabistan.

Senior Advocate Jehangir Iqbal and Advocate G.M. Bhat appeared for the petitioner and Advocate Mohammad Iqbal Dar for respondents (Members of the Governing Body of SKIMS including Chief Minister, Finance Minister, Medical Education Minister, Health Minister, Chief Secretary, Director AIIMS, Director ICMR, Director General Health Services GOI, New Delhi, Dr G Q Allaqaband, Director SKIMS  etc.

The Division Bench passed the orders directing the respondents to reply specifically to the averments made in writ petition. It also directed the Registry to list the case in the 2nd week of Feb 2014.
