Speaking to reporters, Mehbooba said, “I visited the hospital to check on the condition of the injured. I want to compliment the doctors who are treating them with dedication.”

She added, “We pray to Allah that both countries will honour the ceasefire agreement announced yesterday and refrain from further attacks. These continued attacks are killing and injuring innocent people living along the borders.”

Highlighting the situation of the affected families, she said, “Many people have lost their homes in these attacks. I urge the government to construct shelters for them and provide financial assistance so they can rebuild their houses. These are poor people — where will they go?”

Mehbooba further said, “The situation we see in Uri today is the same in Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu, and several other districts.”

When asked about former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s tweet questioning the ceasefire by saying, ‘what kind of ceasefire is this when blasts were heard last night,’ Mehbooba responded, “Ceasefires and de-escalation take time. We need to be patient.” (JKNS)
