SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday called for a full-scale relief and rescue operation in the flash flood-hit districts of Rajouri and Poonch, urging the Jammu and Kashmir administration to provide immediate assistance and adequate compensation to affected families.
In a statement, Mufti expressed grief over the loss of lives and widespread damage caused by flash floods triggered by torrential rains in the twin districts. She extended condolences to the families of those who died and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
She urged the administration to deploy adequate manpower, specialised machinery and emergency resources in the worst-hit areas to strengthen rescue and relief efforts.
“The scale of destruction demands an extraordinary response. Every available agency must work in close coordination to reach stranded families, evacuate those at risk and ensure that relief reaches every affected household,” she said.
Mufti said relief operations should include the provision of temporary shelter, food, drinking water, medical aid and other essential supplies for displaced families. She also called for the early restoration of road connectivity, electricity and communication services to support rescue operations and normalise life.
The former chief minister urged the government to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage and announce a compensation and rehabilitation package for the families of those who died, the injured, and people whose homes, businesses and agricultural land were affected.
Expressing solidarity with the affected residents, Mufti also appreciated the efforts of rescue personnel, local volunteers and residents involved in relief operations. She said a prompt and coordinated response was essential to minimise further hardship in the flood-hit areas.
