SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast intermittent rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days, warning of heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides at isolated places in the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal range of the Jammu division.
According to the MeT Centre, one or two spells of rain and thundershowers are likely at many places across the Union Territory on July 11 and 12, with heavy rain and brief intense showers expected at isolated locations in the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal region.
The weather department said generally hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail from July 13 to 17, with brief spells of rain and thundershowers at scattered places. Isolated areas of the Jammu division may also experience brief intense showers during this period.
A fresh spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is likely to affect many parts of Jammu and Kashmir from July 18 to 20, the forecast said.
In its advisory, the MeT Centre warned that heavy rainfall and intense showers on July 11 and 12, particularly during the afternoon and early morning hours, could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations in the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal range.
The department has advised residents, tourists and commuters to avoid venturing near nallas, streams and landslide-prone areas during periods of heavy rainfall and to exercise caution while travelling.
