Claiming that militants are desperate to sneak into this party of Kashmir, Srinagar based 15 Corps Army commander, Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh Tuesday said that infiltration attempts on part of militants are on rise but the Army is alert to make their every attempt unsuccessful. “Today (Tuesday) morning, five to six terrorists tried to infiltrate in Machil sector. Two of them have been killed and the rest have run back across the LoC,” he said adding that infiltration attempts are continuing.

Briefing media persons about the developments taking place on the LoC, Singh said that due to our effective intelligence network, the Army is able to either kill or push back all the militants who try to infiltrate into Valley.

Without naming Pakistan, Singh said that its intention is to send militants into Valley and disrupt the peace here. “Infiltration attempts are still continuing, but we have excellent support from the people in fighting terrorism,” he said.

Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh said that one militant was killed on Monday when militants tried to infiltrate in Keran sector of Kupwara district. “Three militants tried to infiltrate but our alert soldiers foiled the infiltration bid. One of the militants was killed on our side of the LOC. Another died on the other side of the LOC while the third militant has been injured,” he said.

He said that another operation against militants is presently going on in North Kashmir’s Handwara Hafruda forests. Our soldiers have shown professionalism during counter-insurgency operations,” he said.

Replying to a question on the terror infrastructure, the corps commander said: “The terror infrastructure across and on the LoC is intact, but we have a very effective intelligence network. Information sharing and joint assessment of the intelligence information is very effective.”

He said there are a number of militant camps and launching pads operative across the LoC, but the army is now better placed to analyze and assess the capabilities of the militants.
