A minor boy from South Kashmir has been detained by Police during clashes that broke out in already simmering Shopian town Thursday afternoon.

Saqib Manzoor (15), son of Manzoor Ahmad Beigh, resident of New Colony Shopian is a student of Class 10th at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Shopian and has to appear in practical exams that are going to be held tomorrow.

“Saqib went to main town to get some notes and other material from his cousin but we heard from other boys that he has been arrested by Police,” Saqib’s sister Sharika told GNS.

“My father is not here as he is out of area for some work,” Sharika added.

When contacted Superintendent of Police (SP), Shopian, Mumtaz Ahmad told GNS, I have no information regarding his arrest. “I’ll look into the matter and contact you accordingly.”

When the reporter tried to contact Station House Officer (SHO) Shopian, Irshad Reshi, he suddenly disconnected the phone. Despite repeated attempts, SHO did not pick up the phone.

However, Police sources told GNS that the boy has been booked under charges of stone pelting.
