SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Saturday condemned the killing of two non-local labourers in the Devsar area of Kulgam, saying the targeting of innocent civilians is against the teachings of Islam and the principles of humanity.
In a statement, the Mirwaiz expressed deep grief over the killings and said Islam upholds the sanctity of every innocent human life while unequivocally condemning the killing of innocent persons.
He said attacking poor labourers who had come to Jammu and Kashmir to earn an honest livelihood was completely contrary to Islamic teachings and human values.
The Mirwaiz said that whether in Jammu and Kashmir or elsewhere, the loss of innocent lives only deepens pain and suffering. He stressed that violence should be rejected as a means, and advocated accommodation, dialogue and engagement as the way forward to make South Asia more peaceful and secure for all its people.
He also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the two victims.
