Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led Hurriyat Conference Tuesday called for shutdown on May 21. It said that a rally would be held at Eid Gah in Srinagar on the same day, an amalgam statement said.

The statement said that the amalgam had convened a joint meeting of Hurriyat’s Executive Council and General Council Members at conglomerate’s headquarters.

“During the meeting, the participants took a detailed view of the ongoing political situation besides discussing organizational matters,” the statement said.

The meeting paid tributes to late Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq, late Abdul Gani Lone, victims of Hawal massacre, the statement said.

“A seminar on Sunday, May 17 would be organized at Hurriyat Headquarters and on Sunday May 24 a prayer meeting cum public rally would be held at Kralpora Kupwara to pay tributes to Shaheed-e- Millat and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat. It was resolved in the meeting that all the constituents would make full efforts to make the Hafta Shohda program a grand success on all levels,” the statement further said.
