Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) on Sunday termed Narendra Modi the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate’s remarks on Kashmir issue ‘unrealistic and far from the political and historic ground realities of Jammu and Kashmir’.

Talking to KNS, Mirwaiz said: “It is unfortunate that whenever they (Indian political mainstream) come to Kashmir, they try to ignore and play down the ground realities. But Kashmir   is an international issue and Pakistan is one of the parties to this dispute. Second many wars have been fought on this issue between India and Pakistan. So they cannot ignore the Kashmir issue.”

Referring to BJP president Raj Nath Singh and Modi’s call for abrogation of article 370, the Hurriyat (M) asked the Indian political mainstream to change their political perspective on Kashmir issue. “India has itself taken this issue to United Nations. The world body later adopted a number of resolutions on Kashmir which bear testimony to the fact that it is not an internal issue or a border dispute between the two countries. The Indian political mainstream must understand this reality, sooner the better.”
