While strongly condemning the killing of a youth and injury to others, who were run over by a paramilitary CRPF vehicle in Nowhatta on Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President Ghulam Nabi Monga on Saturday termed it a violation of standard operating procedures (SOP) by the CRPF.

In a statement issued on Saturday, he said the violation of SOP in crowd control is the reason for the incident and proper measures need to be taken to avoid such incidents in the future. “The killing of a young boy in such manner is highly condemnable. The guilty must be punished according to the law.”

“People of the state, especially Kashmir, are paying a huge price for the utter failures of PDP-BJP Government which only believes in the use of force to control the situation in the Valley.

“Every day innocent boys are being killed in Kashmir which must be a cause for concern for every right thinking person in the country. Even after the announcement of a ceasefire during the holy month of Ramazan, killings have not stopped. For how long this Government will control the situation in Kashmir by killing young boys?” Monga asked.

He blamed the wrong approach of both State and Centre Governments for worsening situation in Kashmir. “This Government’s policy revolves around the use of bullets only. There are other simple methods to quell protests. Security forces must make a distinction between civilians and militants,” he said.

“There can be no condemnation strong enough to condemn such a killing,” he said while expressing solidarity with the victim families.
