SRINAGAR: Heavy rainfall during the early hours of Wednesday triggered mudslides and shooting stones at multiple locations along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), disrupting traffic movement in the Udhampur and Ramban sectors, officials said.
According to officials, the affected stretches include the uptube in Udhampur district and the downtube in Ramban district, where continuous rainfall caused landslides and falling rocks, posing a significant risk to commuters.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been informed, and clearance operations are underway to remove the debris and restore traffic at the earliest, officials said.
Authorities have urged commuters to avoid unnecessary travel on NH-44 until weather conditions improve and the highway is fully cleared and declared safe for movement.
The disruption comes amid continuing adverse weather conditions across parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with heavy rainfall affecting several districts.
