In a joint anti-narcotics operation, Police and J&K Excise Department along with Tehsildar Tangmarg raided two road-side “Dhabas” at Kunzar and recovered large quantity of narcotics and illicit liquor. Two persons involved in the narcotic trade were arrested, a police statement said on Friday.

“Police, J&K Excise Department and along with Tehsildar Tangmarg raided a road side Dhaba near Bhatpora Bridge and recovered 19 bags of poppy straw (weighing 175 kg and 500 grams). Police registered a case FIR number 54/2014 under section 8/15 NDPS Act in this regard. The accused running the illicit trade Abdul Razaq Shah son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah resident of Takia Bhatpora managed to flee from the scene and is absconding. Efforts are on to effect his arrest,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, during a raid on another Dhaba near petrol pump Bhatpora, 04 bags of poppy straw (weighing 10 kg and 100 grams),  02 bags of poppy husk (weighing 09 kg and 200 grams) and 06 quarters (“pawwas”) of whisky (180 ml per quarter) were recovered, the statement said.

The statement further said that Police have registered a case FIR number 55/2014 under section 8/15 NDPS Act & 48 Excise Act in this regard. Two persons Abdul Ahad Magray son of Ghulam Mohammad Magray resident of Shrai, Tangmarg and Mushtaq Ahmad Mir son of Habib-Ul-Lah Mir resident of Ratnipora, Tangmarg were arrested from the Dhaba.

The statement also informed that a ‘notorious stone pelter’ was held with Codeine Phosphate in Pampore.

“A notorious stone pelter of Baramulla was arrested in Pampore while transporting Codeine Phosphate and other psychotropic drugs meant for sale among the youth,” the statement said.

“Police intercepted a car bearing registration number JKO1H 0541 near Drangbal. During the search of the car police recovered 35 Codeine Phosphate bottles, about 2500 Spasmo-proxyvon capsules and 360 Alprozolaam tablets. The driver of the car Parvaiz Ahmad Lone son of Mohammad Amin Lone resident of Old town Baramulla was arrested,” the statement said.

A case FIR number 126/2014 under section 8/21 NDPS was registered against the driver of the car. During the investigation it was revealed that Parvaiz is a notorious stone pelter and is involved in the sale of drug among the youth in Baramulla town, the statement said.
