SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) MLA Ahsan Pardesi has submitted a private member bill in the Assembly, calling for a complete ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir. This move follows a similar bill introduced by PDP legislator Fayaz Ahmed Mir from Kupwara.
Both lawmakers emphasise that banning alcohol is necessary to preserve Kashmir’s cultural and religious values, arguing that its consumption contradicts the region’s Sufi-Reshi traditions.
The proposed bills are expected to be introduced during the upcoming Assembly Budget Session. (KNT)
