SRINAGAR: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra on Saturday condemned the killing of two migrant labourers from Chhattisgarh in the Kulgam terror attack, calling for a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation to identify and punish those responsible.
In a statement, Sadhotra described the attack at a brick kiln in Kulgam on Friday night as a “barbaric and inhuman act” intended to spread fear and disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
He demanded that the perpetrators, conspirators and their handlers be identified and brought to justice through a credible investigation, while calling for exemplary punishment for those involved.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, Sadhotra prayed for peace to the departed souls and urged the government to provide adequate compensation and all possible assistance to the victims’ families.
Sadhotra endorsed National Conference President Farooq Abdullah’s observation that terrorist incidents appear to coincide with renewed demands for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying the timing of such attacks warranted a comprehensive and credible inquiry.
Referring to the recent killing of a police head constable in Anantnag and the Kulgam attack, he said the incidents underscored continuing security challenges despite official claims of improved normalcy in the Union Territory.
He questioned how such attacks continued despite extensive security arrangements, particularly during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, and said the Lieutenant Governor should explain the recent rise in terror incidents.
Sadhotra called for a realistic assessment of the security apparatus following the Anantnag and Kulgam attacks, urging authorities to identify any operational shortcomings and take corrective measures to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
Reiterating the National Conference’s commitment to peace, communal harmony and democratic values, he urged all sections of society to remain united against terrorism and stressed that every terror attack must be thoroughly investigated and those responsible brought to justice.
