OBSERVED:

24th death anniversary of Pandit Premnath Bazaz, an author and a journalist, was observed in Srinagar, Jammu and New Delhi on July 5th and 6th. He was part of a local daily Hamdard which has significantly contributed in the field of journalism. Besides, he has authored many books on Kashmir.

JOINED:

G R Bhagat, former IAS officer of J&K cadre has joined National Conference in Jammu. Bhagat recently got retired as Secretary to Government Co-operative Department.  In February this year, B D Bhagat who retired as Chairman J&K Subordinated Services Recruitment Board also joined the party.

DETAINED:

Eleven people including five former militants who tried to enter India from Nepal through Sonouli border seeking benefit of state’s rehabilitation policy were detained, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) commandant of Sonouli told a national news agency. The detained group comprised of five men, four women and two children and all of them were sent to J&K cell in Delhi, accompanied by troops and were handed over to the central intelligence agencies.

KILLED:

Three students including two girls were killed and six persons injured when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge at Wanlado near Lamayun, Leh. The students were studying in Jammu and were returning home. The injured were shifted to the hospital, of which two were stated to be critical.

SNATCHED:

The service revolver of Abdul Gani Bandh, an assistant sub-inspector, was snatched when unidentified gunmen stopped his private vehicle on the Srinagar- Pulwama road. Abdul Gani is brother of Muhammed Khalil Bandh, MLA Pulwama, and was working with him as a PSO for past nine months. Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged at police station Pulwama in this regard.

FOUND:

Police have recovered the body of an 18 month old Zeenat, daughter of Mohammed Ashraf Rather who had gone missing from her house in Pattan, Baramulla. The body was found in a well but no marks of injury were found on her body. A case has already been registered in this regard, police said.

BUSTED:

Troops of 17 RR busted a militant hideout in Nagsini, Kishtwar and recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition from there including the US army jacket exclusively prepared for the NATO troops operating in Taliban strong bastion of Afghanistan, a Jammu based daily reported. The army officials did not elaborate much on the recovery but said the matter has been brought to the notice of higher authorities.

DROWNED:

Aaqib Wani, 17, drowned while Shahid Ahmad, 16, was rescued from a canal in Pulwama, police said. Both were residents of Shar Shali and were taking a bath at the canal in a village in Pampore when they slipped into deep waters, police said.

BOOKED;

Parvez Imroz, human rights defender and a lawyer was detained for two hours over an altercation with a deputy Superintendent of police, Traffic. The incident occurred when Imroz was driving his car towards the High court complex while police was managing the traffic in an “aggressive manner”, Imroz alleged. Imroz was “manhandled by police” and was later taken to police station where a case under RPC section 353 was registered against him.

SANCTIONED:

State cabinet which met under chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah accorded sanction to the establishment of Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge at Sopore, Baramulla. The cabinet approved creation of 14 posts and upgradation of the post of Joint Development Commissioner (Works) as Development Commissioner (Works).

ISSUED:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to deputy commissioner Kulgam, over the alleged encroachment of land belonging to a Pandit family. The deputy commissioner and superintendent of police have been asked to submit a report within two weeks. NHRC took cognizance of the land grab after media reports appeared that a Pandit family was allegedly assaulted by a group of local people when they visited their apple orchard and found their land was encroached upon.

SEIZED:

Kupwara police during a routine checking seized 500 grams of charas from the possession of Tajamand Rafiq son of Mohammed Rafiq of Kandi, Karnah. The accused has been arrested and a case has been registered under section 8/20 NDPS Act in this regard.

INJURED:

Shoaib Lone, a Congress leader was attacked by a group of youth in Palhalan when they mistook his fast moving vehicle as a police van and hurled stones at his vehicle. Lone, a congress candidate from Sangrama constituency alleged that he suffered injuries on his face and his car was also damaged.

ARRESTED:

Mohammed Nazir Malik, a Panchayat member has been arrested and one kilogram of cannabis recovered from his possession in Rajouri. The vehicle from which the cannabis was recovered was taken into custody along with three occupants of the vehicle, of these two were later released.
