ATTEMPTED:

Mohammed Qasim Tas resident of Ahalan Godole, Islamabad tried to kill Sakina Akhtar, 6, his daughter, by silting her throat by a sharp weapon. She is now struggling for her life in a sub-district hospital at Kokernag, police spokesperson said. A case under FIR no. 93/2013 under section 307 RPC is registered in this regard.

DIRECTED:

State high court directed the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department to ensure that no construction is done on about 200 meters on either sides of river Lidder. It also directed three months’ time for finalizing the revised Master Plan for Pahalgam. The directions were passed in a PIL titled ‘Pahalgam People’s Welfare Organisation versus State and Pervez Imroz was their counsel.

RAPED:

A 17 years old girl, resident of Darhal, Rajouri was gang-raped and thrown outside the District Hospital Rajouri in serious condition. The girl was missing from her home since July 10 and her parents were looking for her since then. Doctors say that the minor is under shock and is not stable yet, she is profusely bleeding. The police have registered a case and have started looking for the accused.

RECOVERED:

The semi-naked body of Mohammed Nasir, 30, resident of Jabra, Mendhar, was recovered from a forest area near Harni, Mendhar. A mentally unstable Nisar had gone missing from past 5 days from his home, his family has said. The body had injury marks and was spotted by a villager lying near a pond. Police have registered a case and investigations are on.

 RAPPED

State high court observed their dissatisfaction and rapped the Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) for its report on leakage of papers in the last month’s examination, calling it a “fictitious story”. The bench further observed that head of the institute is responsible for the lapses. The high Court had taken suo-moto cognizance after Biology and Chemistry papers were leaked and the Common Entrance Test (CET) for Medical and Engineering Courses was cancelled by BOPEE.

ARRESTED:

The Udhampur Police have rescued 3 animals and have arrested 2 smugglers, Mohammed Saleem of Chanderkote and Bashir Ahmed of Jagti Nagrota. As per the police reports, their patrolling party intercepted one Mahindra vehicle in the wee hours near Jakheni, Udhampur carrying these animals. A case has been registered in this connection for further investigation.

ARRESTED:

Pummy Koul, wife of Avtar Krishan Koul, a resident of Jagti Quarters, Nagrota has been arrested for running a fake job racket and extorting money from the youth on the assurance that she would arrange jobs for them in Civil Secretariat. The arrest was made after Anjar, who has paid Rs 30,000 to Koul, made a complaint against her. Police have registered a case for further investigations.

ACQUITTED:

Abdul Rashid, son of Ali Mohammed Dar, resident of Anantnag has been acquitted by a local court of Jammu. Rashid was accused of being involved in smuggling of Charas. The Principal session judge observed that the prosecution’s story was doubtful and the charges levelled against Rashid were not proved properly so the accused was acquitted.

PROTESTED:

Up against the alleged encroachment of a natural pond near Peer Baba at Kunjwani the locals held a strong demonstration against the Auqaf Board. The residents raised slogans against the Auqaf authorities for fencing the entire chunk of land around Peer Baba.  After seeing the locals protesting A K Sahu personally reached to the spot and assured the protesters that Government would not allow encroachment or any construction on the land said to be a natural pond. He also assured necessary action in this regard following which the protesters dispersed off.

PRESENTED:

Special Investigation Team (SIT) presented challan against Shiv Krishan Sharma, Sub-inspector (encounter specialist), his PSO Mohammed Ayub, labourers Abdul Rashid, Akhter Hussain, Mohammad Rafi, cook Altaf Hussain, Mohammad Yaqoob and Arshad Ahmed who were arrested for grenade attack on the Police station Thathri. Next hearing is scheduled for August 2, 2013 and Shiv along with other accused has been shifted to Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal.

CAUGHT:

Abdul Rashid resident of Durgah, Mohd Saleem and Showkat Ahmed Nazir residents of Rainawari, three pick pockets, were arrested red-handed by passengers in a minibus and handed over to the police. Rs 1200 were recovered from their possession. Police have registered a case under a section 380 RPC against them at Udhampur police station.

ARRESTED:

Lateef Ahmed Pir, an Assistant professor of Botany from University of Kashmir, was arrested by police after his in-laws registered a case against him complaining that he not only demanded dowry from his wife but also beat her ruthlessly. Pir was arrested after his father-in-law lodged a complaint at police station Nigeen.

SLAPPED:

Javed Mir, a PDP MLA slapped and manhandled Ali Mohammed Dar, a NC MLA, in a District Development Board (DDB) meeting in SKICC. The eye witnesses said that Dar raised the issue of Sointeng Lasjan School and demanded that it should be upgraded to Higher Secondary. Mir objected and the two had an argument over the issue. Mir in the rush slapped Dar in front of Omar Abdullah. However he later apologized and said he should have controlled himself.
