APPOINTED:

The Governor has appointed M A Bukhari, Secretary Animal and Sheep husbandry Department, as inquiry officer to look into various aspects related to the conduct of Common Entrance Test (CET) 2013 which was cancelled by the Government after the papers were leaked in late June, 2013. The Board is now asked to conduct fresh test in all the papers.

DAMAGED:

Flash floods triggered by heavy rains have caused minor damages to a section of the fencing along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu frontier belt, a BSF officer said. He added continuous efforts are made to repair the damages. Last year, the BSF had repaired and reconstructed over 500 meters long fencing patches along the Indo-Pak border in Samba district, which was damaged by torrential rains and floods.

CAUGHT:

Tariq Ahmed, Patwari of Halqa Nandpora, Srinagar was caught red handed by the State Vigilance Organization while accepting a bribe of Rs 4000 for issuance of revenue extract. He was caught after an FIR was registered and the vigilance sleuths laid the trap. The tainted money was recovered from his possession and he was taken into custody for further investigation.

BEATEN UP:

Zafar Iqbal, 15, a 10th class student, was admitted to the hospital after he was allegedly beaten up by Zahoor Ahmed Qazi, his teacher of local Government High School. Parents of Zafar allege that Qazi was forcing him to work in his fields for few days to cut the grass for cattle but he refused and was mercilessly beaten. The boy was later shifted to Mendhar hospital and parents have lodged a complaint in the concerned police station.

GUNNED DOWN:

Qari Yasir, a senior commander of Jaish-e- Mohammed in Kashmir was gunned down in an operation in Kupwara district. As per the police statement, Qari was active in North Kashmir for past seven years. His killing is being considered as a big setback to the militant group, which presently has a strength of 10 to 12 militants across Kashmir. Qari had sustained injuries after an encounter on July 10 at Lalpora, Lolab and since then Army was looking for him. About 11 cases related to militancy were registered against him, the Commander 15 Corps said.

EXTENDED:

The state government has extended the time period for submission of the report by the Inquiry Committee into air crash of State owned helicopter in 2003. According to a formal order in this connection the time period of submitting the report has further been extended up to July 31, 2013. The committee was constituted in September 2012.

NOMINATED:

Dr Showkat Zargar, Director SKIMS and ex-office Secretary to government, has been nominated as member of Institute body, the highest making body of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneshwar. AIIMS, Bhubneshwar is one among the six newly set up AIIMS. Dr Zargar earlier has been a member of Academic Council of Rajisthan Medical University and Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi.

ARRESTED:

Vinod Kumar alias Ammu, Aman Sharma and Annu Sharma were arrested for being involved in attempting to murder Narinder Singh in January this year. The accused were absconding after making attempt on the life of Singh. They had attacked the accused causing him multiple injuries and escaped from the spot.

DROWNED:

Four persons, Abdul Qayoom Sheikh and Mohammad Altaf Sheikh, both residents of Nowgam,  Ashiq Husain Gani and Imityaz Ahmed Mir, both residents of Kupwara  have drowned while taking a bath at different places in Kashmir. Bodies of Ganie and Mir were found in two different water reservoirs but the other two aren’t found yet.

DIED:

Muntaza, 3, daughter of Mushtaq Ahmed Ganie of Arhama, Ganderbal died due to burn injuries she received after fire broke out in residential house of Ghulam Ahmed Rather. Fire was brought under control with the help of fire tenders and locals of the area.

REJECTED:

The bail application of Khjoor Singh, Harvinder Singh and Roshan Singh alias Roshu was rejected by the Principal Session Jugde. Trio is involved in rape case registered at Police Station Kathua on May 7, 2013. “Although the period of custody is a relevant factor in determining the question of the grant of bail but the totality of circumstances and the social concern has to be kept in view in juxtaposition of individual liberty”, the court observed and the bail stand cancelled.

CRACKED:

The blind murder case of Bittu, a rag picker, in Gandhi-nagar was cracked immediately and Balwant Singh the accused was arrested within 24 hours. Singh was an auto rickshaw driver. During investigation it was found that Bittu used to consume alcohol with Singh. Bittu used to live in a makeshift accommodations in Jammu for the past 20-25 years.
