LAUNCHED:

Army and state police have launched a joint operation in North Kashmir’s Lolab forests against a group of militants after they killed a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant and busted a hideout. The defence spokesman confirmed that one day long search operation helped them recover AK rifle, six magazines, 140 AK rounds, two radio sets, one GPS and some administrative items.

ALERTED:

The Shastra Seema Bal (SSB), has sounded alert after finding that 200 more militants and former militants from J&K, who have been putting up in Pakistan and Pakistan administrated Kashmir (PaK) for past nearly two decade, have managed to reach Nepal from Pakistan to sneak into India from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar borders. The families including wives and children of some of the militants accompanied them. SSB which mans Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has strengthened its positions with deployment of 3000 additional personnel to ensure that no unwanted persons manages to cross the border into India from Nepal.

HELD:

Police have arrested Girdhari Singh of Khanikote in Mahore, a notorious criminal who was wanted in a number of criminal cases in Reasi and has been absconding for the last around two decades. To arrest him SDPO Mahore Mushim Ahmed constituted a Police team, headed by SHO Arnas Ashok Sharma. The team conducted a series of raids at possible hideouts of the absconder and finally succeeded to nab him for producing him before the court of law and further legal action.

HELD:

Two timber smugglers, Ishfaq Ahmad Lone of Chewllar and Bilal Ahmad Magray of Chana Kitaar, Tral, masquerading as militants were apprehended by police in South Kashmir’s Tral area. Police says the duo was carrying toy AK 47 to spread terror among the local and make good of the nefarious activity during the night. Police have registered an FIR under relevant section.

AWARDED:

Fazal Ahmed, who was facing trial for the last 6 years in an attack case over land dispute at Bishnah, Jammu has been awarded one year imprisonment and Rs 10,000 fine. The accused was further sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of six months for the commission of offence falling under Section 324 RPC.

HELD:

Police have rescued 22 bovine animals and arrested four smugglers from Domana and Satwari, Jammu. Police have registered an FIR and have launched a manhunt to arrest the two absconding bovine smugglers who escaped from the spot while others were held.

AWARDED:

Sunil Kumar who was facing trial in a case involving kidnapping and rape of a minor girl has been awarded 12 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 27000. The victim’s father nine years back has lodged a report against Kumar. Police had registered a case and during investigations had carried out the medical examination of the victims which supported their allegation.

SENT:

A local city court sent Mushtaq Ahmed Peer, the former Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE), to 15 days judicial remand. Peer is the main accused in CET, 2012, so far. The demand for remand was asked by the investigation officer of the case as they are expected to collect incriminating evidence from Peer. Earlier this month, the court has sent him to 10 days judicial remand and he was lodged at Central Jail Srinagar.

APPOINTED:

Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh has been appointed as the new Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) to succeed IAF Chief NAK Browne, who is superannuating on December 31.The Chairman, COSC is the senior-most officer of the three Services and is in-charge for looking after the joint issues related to them. The senior-most of the three Services chiefs takes over the post.

ASSAULTED:

Army personnel allegedly assaulted a police party on a naka in Nowshera, Rajouri and severely thrashed the cops with sticks and their service weapons. A Police Constable and SPO sustained serious injuries in the attack. Police has registered an FIR in this connection under various sections of RPC while Army has also ordered an inquiry into the incident. However, no arrest has been made so far.

ARRESTED:

Police have arrested Parvez Ahmed, 40, a teacher who allegedly raped his 9th class student in Bulbul Bagh, Burzulla, Srinagar. The student had come to Parvez’s residence to attend private tuition. Police have registered a case under relevant sections and investigations are on.

AWARDED:

Prof Nisar A Chowdri, Prof Ajaz Ahmad Malik, Prof Fazal Q Parray and Dr Rauf Wani, senior surgeons of Department of General and Minimal Access Surgery, SKIMS, have been conferred with fellowship from the American College of Surgeons (FACS) among 1622 surgeons from around the world. Director and ex officio secretary to Government Prof Shaukat Ali Zargar has hailed and congratulated the faculty on achieving this milestone in the top world surgical fora.
