KILLED:

Tawseef Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Hassan of Prichoo resident of Pulwama was killed in an encounter with Army’s 53 Rashtriya Rifles in Dalvan Pakerpora village of Budgam. Locals, however, allege that Dar was killed in Army firing. The area soon after the incident witnessed violent protests and half a dozen people were injured in the police action. One of the injured was admitted to SKIMS Srinagar.

VACANT:

State over past five years has referred 52,638 posts to Services Selection Board (SSB) but only 26,418 of them have been filled up, which is just 50 per cent of the referred posts. The Government has, meanwhile, ruled out making SSRB and other recruitment Boards as autonomous. The details were shared by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, In-charge General Administration Department in the on-going Legislative assembly.

DIRECTED:

State high court directed the Commissioner/Secretary Department of Health to make personal appearance before the court for not implementing its orders on promotions in Health Department. The court had passed various orders from time to time for finalizing the regular promotion in the Health Department including to the post of Director Health Services, Kashmir. The court had also directed the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) to file detailed status report giving exact dates on which the proposal for finalizing the regular promotion.

CONCLUDED:

6-day Senior Alpine Ski & Snowboarding championship, organized by J&K Winter Games Association under the aegis of Winter Games Federation of India, concluded in Gulmarg this week. In the event, around 160 skiers and snowboarders distributed among eight teams, drawn from various parts of country, participated. At the concluding function 24 prominent skiers were awarded with certificates and trophies while as other participants were felicitated with mementoes.

KILLED:

Nazir Ahmad Qadri, the Information and Publicity Officer of the Agriculture department, was killed in a road accident in Jammu. His demise is widely condoled by people from all walks of life. The deceased was the brother of Ghulam Jeelani Qadri, the Editor of Daily Afaaq and its Associate Editor Morifaat Qadri.

BEGINS:

The three-day long Airbus International Heli-Ski competition, organized by Airbus Helicopters in collaboration with Kashmir Heli-Ski, began at the world famous ski resort, Gulmarg. The event, first of its kind, saw around 200 skiers from across the globe vying for the honours on the inaugural day today. Participants include some of the top international skiers who are known in the extreme skiing arena. They have turned up from countries like, USA, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada as well as India apart from the host State. The USP of the event is that some of the skiers are Olympic level athletes.

BAGGED:

The union ministry of tourism has appreciated the working of Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department by conferring it with the National Tourism Award for the year 2012-13 in the Category “Best State – Comprehensive Development of Tourism”. The Award was presented today by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India at a function in New Delhi.

HOSPITALISED:

Former Governor of Assam and Jammu and Kashmir, Lt General (retd) S K Sinha, has been admitted to the Army Research and Referral Hospital here after he developed some health complications. The exact illness leading to the hospitalisation of the 87-year-old Sinha, who had quit Army in 1983 after he was superseded for the post of Army Chief, is not clear. An author of several books, he was also ambassador to Nepal.

RELEASED:

In the on-going legislative assembly sessions Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo informed the House that an amount of Rs. 29.85 crore have been released under TSP and Article 275 (1) for up-liftment of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities in the State during last and current fiscal. The Social Welfare Minister has set up 886 income generating units in different constituencies of the State under direct financing and bank type schemes during last and current financial years.

ARRESTED:

Pacca Danga police in Jammu have arrested Gourav Jain, son of Parjan Jain, the proprietor of “Shanker Shah Jewellers” in cheque bouncing case. A non-bailable warrant was issued by Special Railway Magistrate against Jain. Gourav was summoned various times by the Court in a complaint, filed by Sham Gupta, but he did not respond.
