ALLEGED: Even after completion of first unit of 11 MWs of Chutokhydroelectric Kargil is still in darkness. Hassan Khan, the MP alleges theconcerned agencies including the state power development departmentare not interestedin completing the whole unit causing inconvenience to the population.

PLANNING: University of Jammu is planning to start a community radio stationat its campus which apart from benefitting its students will also help the community living in the radius of 15 Km. It was announced in the 32nd workshop on Regional Level Community of Indiain association with Commonwealth Media for Asia (CEMCA) and in association with JU at Computer Sciences Auditorium.

SIGNED: J&K Grameen Bank signed MoU with International Tractors Ltd (ITL), the flagship company of Hoshiapur. This MoU is signed as part of the Bank’s initiative to boost agriculture, tap the vast potential of rural  market and provide hassle free service to the rural masses.

SET UP: Army established a centre, ‘Youth Guidance Node’, for guiding  educated youth in finding employment in District Baramulla. The centre is wellequipped with all the basic facilities including internet. It is set up at Army Goodwill School, Boniyar, Uri.

RECOMMENDED: Two-member CBI team probing Srinagar Defence land scam has recommended Defence Ministry to cancel 70 NoCs issued by Abhay Choudhary, thet hen Defence Estates Officer – Kashmir Province. These were granted in favour of various private parties to occupy land owned by Indian Air Force near Srinagar Airport.

CHALLENGED: Army after seeking to quash lower court orders in Machil fake  encounter case has challenged Rule 8 of J&K criminal court and court  martial (adjustments of jurisdiction) Rule 1983 on the grounds that it isagainst the Indian constitution and the Army act. The disclosure of the fake  encounter of three youth, Reyaz Ahmad, Mohammad Shafi and Shahzad Ahmad ofNadihal, Baramulla district had triggered mass protests in the area in 2010.

DECIDED: Omar Abdullah has directed the Election Department to hold Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in 76 existing ULBs including two Corporations in rotational capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu by May 15, 2012.  The concerned authorities have started processing the matter.

REGULARIZED: A committee set up by the government under J&K Civil Service (special provision) Act, 2010, has regularized 1400 contractual/ ad hoc appointments so far where as 2200 candidates are found ineligible. Official figures of the contractual appointees goes up to 6,800 but the committee has only received 5700 of them.

ADMITTED: Association of Parents  of  Disappeared Persons (APDP) a human rights group in Kashmir revealed that out of 132 disappearance cases registered with them 24 of the disappeared were picked up by the militants, 21 by the troops, 43 cases by unidentified gunmen and the rest disappeared in the unknown circumstances.

ARRESTED: Police arrested a shopkeeper and an Assistant Agriculture Officer (AAO) in Verinag on the charges of selling in black the hybrid seeds and fertilizers meant for the distribution among the farmers on subsidy. FIR has been lodged and investigations are on.

PLANNED: Union Ministry sanctioned a project of setting up a biogas plant near the holy town of  Katra where at least 40 tonnes of dung is littered by the mules all over the place. A portion of it working on 4 tonnes is put on trail.

SEIZED: Special Investigating Team (SIT) of police seized documents pertaining to 250 kanals of land encroached by Ravinder Gupta alias Gola Shah. The documents were lying with some retired Tehsildars and Patwari and were recovered after raiding homes of at least 10 of them.

FOILED: Police foiled a bid by some youth to set ablaze the recently vacated (by CRPF)  Firdous Cinema, though a smallhut used as the bunker was gutted down.

SOUGHT: Mehbooba Mufti, president PDP welcoming the establishment of students union at Islamic University, Awantipora called for therevival of unionsin other institution also. The leader sees it as a democratization of thecampus activities.
