ATTACKED: A snow leopard attacked and injured Ghulam Mohammed, 65, Mohammed Yousuf, 50, Mohammed Aslam, 40 and Rayees Ahmed, 30, at Ramban. The injured were admitted in the hospital. The leopard was beaten by the villagers and later died in a veterinary hospital.

RESCUED:
  A total of 1377 tourists and locals, 827 passengers from Srinagar and 550 from Jammu stranded in two cities due to heavy snowfall, were airlifted with the help of Indian Air Force. In a separate operation a team of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) rescued 11 workers of PHE who were trapped in the snow capped area in Doda.

LOOTED: Rupees 17,000 was looted from the rented house of three Kashmiri businessmen – Sayeed Ahmed Masoodi, Farid Ahmed Masoodi and Iqbal Masoodi – at Alwar, Rajasthan. Police has launched investigations into the case.

KILLED:
Aiyaz Ahmed Shah, 40, a businessman from Pulwama was killed at his residence. Police investigations are on. Preliminary investigations have lead the suspicion towards involvement of LeT in the killing but nothing substantiate has come up yet.

SEIZED: Official vehicles of Mian Altaf, Forest Minister; Raman Bhalla, Revenue Minister, Abdul Gani Malik, Higher Education Minister, Commissioner Secretary Technical Education, Inspector Police (Crime) and SP workshop were seized for violating traffic SRO 33 of 2007 in Jammu. The family members of the said ministers and bureaucrats were using their official vehicles with red light.

DROPPED:
By returning Rs 11.8 crore the State government has scrapped a multi crore deal with HCI  and M/s BD&P hotels (India) pvt Ltd., a Mumbai based company over Centaur Lake View Hotel. HCI besides taking the control of the hotel was supposed to pay it two crore annually. The deal was seen as a threat to its employees who had filed a writ petition against the deal as well.

PENALIZED: An additional Secretary/ PIO of J&K PSC has been fined Rs 25,000 for causing delay in providing information and harassing Vilakshana Singh.  Singh has sought information under RTI Act from PSC pertaining to KCS (Judicial) exams.

SOLVED: The mysterious case of death of Mehraj ud din Misri, 40, of Noorbagh is solved, claims police. Misri’s wife, Shahzada, and her close aide are said to be involved in the murder. FIR No 06/2012 U/S 34, 302 RPC was lodged in the matter.

BLOCKED: Public Accounts Committee  while reviewing various wings of Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD) revealed that funds worth crores meant for the development of Srinagar and different municipalities of Kashmir are either blocked or diverted to other regions by H&UDD. Certain cases where the funds were allotted in 50:50 ratios to Srinagar and Jammu but 92% are spent in Jammu and 0% in Kashmir were highlighted by PAC.

MEETING: Enquiry commission constituted to probe death of Syed Mohammed Yousuf is meeting on February 2, 2012 instead of January 28, 2012. Syed reportedly died in the police hospital after police took him into custody from chief minister’s residence.

DIRECTED: Chief Judicial Magistrate directed SSP Crime Branch to investigate the matter involving Kulwant Singh who got PRC from DC Jammu without surrendering the old one to get the undue benefits for himself and his family. Singh has committed offences of cheating which are punishable under Sections 420/465/467/468/ & 471 RPC.

LODGED: CBI has lodged another FIR in a scam of several crore in the IAF against a businessman and unnamed officials of SBI for committing the fraud worth Rs 1.10 crore on the name of purchase of tractors.

AWARDED: Amarjeet Singh alias Happy has been awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 in a murder case of Narinder Singh alias Bittu in August 2005. Narinder was killed with an iron rod and was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

DIRECTED:
Justice J P Singh, Vacation Judge of JK High court, Jammu directed Jammu Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) not to operate its bank accounts through self/bearer cheques till the next hearing.  The notice is sent to the General Secretary, President, Chairman, Advocate and others members of the Association.

ALLEGED: SSP Basant Rath already facing trial under sections 500/503 of RPC and section 66-A of Information Technology Act 2000 is again accused by one of his subordinates of thrashing him in the office during his tenure as SSP Jammu.

UNEARTHED: The CBI unearthed a scam in fraudulent allotment of petrol pumps by Indian Oils Corporation (IOC) and registered an FIR against the top brass officer of IOC and revenue Department.  The accused are booked U/S 120-B read with 467, 468 and 471 RPC by CBI.

ACCEPTED: It is taken as the first time that Pakistani Ranger accepted the body of an intruder killed by the BSF on the International Border (IB) in Pargwal Island of Akhnoor. The killed intruder could be a Pakistani spy, officials said.
