STARTED: Craft Development Institute, Srinagar has started a new innovative 2 year postgraduate course, master of Craft Management and Entrepreneurship, with an intake capacity of 20. The programme, recognized by University of Kashmir, will promote entrepreneurship in indigenous arts and crafts, equipped with the latest technology to cope with the changing market trends, authorities said. Candidates will be selected through a three tier entrance test, MAT, Designers Aptitude Test and an interview.

 

DIRECTED: House committee (HC) has directed G N Qasba, Commissioner SMC, to depute a party to Ansari Motors (TOYOTA) at Bemina Bypass Srinagar and conduct an on-spot inspection. They have been directed to furnish a detailed report to the Committee about the building structure and to ascertain whether it is made as per the permission issued by the concerned quarters, reads an official handout. The HC is headed by Mir Saifullah.

 

ISSUED: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has taken a strong notice of repeated anti Congress statements issued by Mustafa Kamal, a National Conference (NC) leader, and has warned the party (NC) not to repeat the same thing in future as it can disturb the smooth functioning of the coalition government. “Kamal’s anti-Congress statements are highly objectionable, mischievous and distortion of historical facts, which are intolerable,” said JKPCC general secretary.

 

ORGANIZED: A week long ‘All India Sculptors camp’ was organised at Cultural Academy Open Theatre in Leh in which 15 sculptors from within and outside the state participated. It was inaugurated by Ghulam Abbas Abidi, Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh. The exhibition of the sculptures prepared during the camp days would be held on July 11 there.

 

DENIED: The authorities in University of Kashmir have denied Shania Zehra, a visually handicapped girl, the services of scribble -of-choice in the entrance test of integrated LLB course. Zehra was earlier allowed to take the exams along with her scribe at Delhi University and Central University of Kashmir. She has passed her 12th class examination from CBSE with 84% marks and stood first at National Institute of visually handicapped at Dehradun. The authorities here seem to be ignorant about laws apart from being grossly insensitive, the family accused.

 

KILLED: Lal Jan, a detenue and constable Abdul Aziz were killed while six other policemen were injured after a Tata 407 minibus bearing number JK11-8401 turned and fell into a deep gorge at Tutawali Gali near Bimber Gali in Mendhar tehsil. Jan, guilty of murdering her husband, was brought to attend last rites of her father on the directives of court.

 

ASKED: SRHC has asked Director General of Police and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to file a preliminary report in Gawkadal massacre of January 21, 1990. DC Srinagar has further been directed to inform the Commission whether any compensatory relief has been sanctioned in favour of kins of deceased and injured. In January 1990 peaceful demonstrators were fired upon by the then DSP Kothibagh, Alla Bakash and his men along with CRPF personnel killing 50 and injuring 250, reads the petition.

APPOINTED: The District Magistrate Handwara has appointed Additional Deputy Commissioner of the District, as an Inquiry Officer (IO) of the firing incident involving army men at Tarakpora Zachaldara of Rajwara area in which a youth was injured. The incident sparked protests in the area. The IO is asked to submit the report within 9 months.

 

LODGED: Police have registered an FIR No-48 of 2012 against Abdul Aziz Khoja son of Ayub Khoja, Sarpanch of Panchayat Halqa Dardepora “C” for allegedly assaulting a woman, Bibi Jan, 50, wife of Laluddin. Jan has received multiple head injuries and is battling for her life. The victim’s family has accused the Sarpanch of misusing his powers in the village.

 

REACTED: M Saleem Beg, INTACH -Jammu and Kashmir Chapter Convenor, has shot two letters, one to Lt Gen A S Sekhon, GOC of Srinagar-based XV Corps (Chinar Corps) General Officer-in-Commanding (GOC) and the other to C Phunsog, Chief Secretary, drawing their attention to the ‘’vandalism’’ by the Army in Sonamarg. Army has constructed toilets on the banks of river Sindh, the largest glacier fed fresh water resource in Kashmir, in the tourist resort of Sonamarg.

 

DIED: Satnam Singh, one among the three investigating officers (IO) who were arrested in fudging of evidences in Amandeep Singh murder case, died at Government Medical College hospital, Jammu. Police said he was suffering from multiple ailments including diabetes. The family alleged that Satnam died due to negligence of jail authorities, as they failed to provide him timely treatment. Amandeep was shot dead outside his residence in Shastri Nagar on August 29, 2009.

 

APPOINTED: Bashir ud din, the state government backed grand mufti (Mufti Azam), has nominated his son, Nasir-ul-Islam, as his successor in the supreme court of Islamic Shariat. The nomination was made in presence of Ullemas (Islamic scholars) at the Imam Azam conference held at grand mufti’s Soura residence at Srinagar, said the family’s spokesperson. The family claimed that Islamic scholars, both from mainstream and separatist bent of mind, attended the conference. Nasir till now was working as deputy Mufti Azam.

 

RECOVRED: Police recovered a kidnapped girl from Ludhiaina, Punjab and arrested Suraj Singh, the kidnapper. The girl belonged to a Gujjar family from Chhann Kana near Ghagwal and her kidnapping had triggered communal clashes in the area. After medical examination, the girl was restored to the family.

 

DIED: Peer Rafiq Sahab, son of Peer Ghulam Hassan, a saint of Aishmuqam was found dead in a small road side drain covered under hay at Khanabal-Pahalgam road near Mattan. Eyewitnesses say the body bore injury marks on his head and allege that he was hit by a Yatra vehicle during night. The rumors about Peer’s death spread fast and large number of people blocked the traffic movement on KP road and authorities diverted all the traffic including Yatra and tourist vehicles through Langanbal-Pahalgam road.
