INFILITRATED: About 40 militants have infiltrated into Kashmir this year, said Lt General Om Prakash, GOC, Chinar Corps on the sidelines of a friendly cricket match at 15 Corp HQ of Army at Badami Bagh cantonment. He assured that the Army was making every possible attempt to minimize the militancy activities in the hinterland. He also added that militants are running out of money and weapons in Kashmir.

VISITED: R K Singh, the union home secretary on his two-day visit to Leh, visited the forward post of Indo-Tibetian Border Police (ITBP) along LAC with China to check their preparedness to maintain sanctity of the unmarked territories between the two countries. Singh also had a detailed meeting with Rigjin Spalbar, Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council on rebuilding the infrastructure damaged in August 2010 flash floods.

SEEKING: State government having the shortage of IAS officers has dashed several letters to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) with a request to repatriate the officers who have completed their central deputation of five years. Due to this shortage several posts are being manned by giving additional charge to officers.

SURRENDERED: Pardeep Kumar Jain, Military Engineering Service (MES) contractor, following the Income Tax surveys, surrendered Rs 1 crore of his undisclosed income. Jain is also the Managing Director of M/s Pradeep Electricals Pvt Limited at Gandhi Nagar. The department is still scrutinizing Jain’s documents.

COPIED: Sarhad, a Pune based NGO, has set up ‘P L Deshpande Park’ copying the style of Kashmir’s Mughal garden at Singhgad, Pune. Sanjay Nehar, Sarhad’s founder said they are trying to make a strong bond between the two states from the last few years. They said they have been taking help from Kashmiri students who are studying there.

ARRESTED: Police arrested Mir Manzoor Gazanfer, the owner of Hotel Silver Star for allegedly aiming his licensed pistol at a J&K Bank employee who had came to recover pending amount of loan sanctioned eight years back. The accused was served with notices several times but he failed to pay the dues and instalments, sources said.

ESTABLISHED: In his report to Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, the inquiry officer has written that equipment has been procured on exorbitant rates in order to cause undue pecuniary benefits to Dr. Riyaz Farooq, Principal, Government Dental College, Srinagar and the dealers. SSP Vigilance Organization has been directed to register formal FIR if in his opinion there was any ground for the same on the basis of the findings arrived at by the inquiry officer under the relevant provisions of law.

ARRESTED: Police arrested Ghulam Ahmad Mir alias Jia Mir, a resident of Thanna Mandi in Rajouri district for being a hawala operator and an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of the militants in Nagrota area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Jia Mir was being searched after the arrest of his nephew Zahid Latief Wani along with a hawala consignment of Rs 5 lakh. Mir will be questioned after he will be discharged from the hospital as he was not putting up well.

ARRESTED: Fabeyan Wahid, Arsalan Wahid and Abdul Wahid Gilkar, the father-son trio, who allegedly have swindled crores of rupees from Hajj aspirants over last two years, have been arrested by the police. Pertinently, the Hajeej travels had duped 501 Hajj aspirants in 2011 after receiving Rs 5.5 crore from them as advance payment for arranging Hajj pilgrimage for them. However, the owners of the company had gone into hiding after failing to take the aspirants on Hajj.

DIRECTED: SHRC has recommended departmental enquiry against Station House Officer of Police Station Nowpachi Marwah in Doda district for “unprofessional approach” which led to death of Muhammad Ramzan Sheikh in the police custody and caused damage to public property in the area in 2006. The commission had taken suo-moto cognizance of a report ‘1 dies, 2 injured in police firing on protesters’ published in local press on December 28, 2006. The commission had sought reports regarding the case from IGP Jammu Zone and Deputy Commissioner, Doda.

ARRESTED: Police arrested Devinder Singh, a BSF personnel, who deserted along with his weapon in Akhnoor tehsil. Singh was posted in West Bengal and was missing from past few days along with his service weapon. Police said a villager noticed the movement of a suspect near his fields and informed the BSF.

AWARDED: Ikhlaq Hussain Shah was awarded six years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 was imposed on him for obtaining a job on the basis of a fake certificate. He was presently working in the revenue department. The matter was enquired into by DSP Headquarters, Poonch and the allegations leveled against the accused were established on the basis of several evidences.

VISITED: Dr Mehboob Beg, National Conference leader and Member of Parliament, Anantnag, attended 127th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Quebec, Canada. The delegation was led by Lok Sabha Speaker, Meira Kumar. Beg participated in the debate under the heads ‘citizenship’, ‘identity’, ‘linguistic and cultural diversity in a globalized world’, ‘Parliamentary immunity – benefit or burden’, ‘fair trade’ and also on ‘Parliamentary representation’, ‘communication’ and ‘role of social media’.
