ETIRED: Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, who served the government in several positions for the past 30 years retired as Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The retirement was a bit different, as the official was expecting an extension.

ANNOUNCED:The government is planning to raise funds from the market to buy Salal(690 MW) and Uri(390 MW) projects from NHPC. It would cost Rs 2600crores, but the civil society says NHPC needs not to be paid anything because it can not prove ownership.

APPOINTED: Nisar Ahmed Kakroo, retired Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh was appointed as the Chairman of HR Commission in Andhra Pradesh. He retired last month.

ISSUED: Finance department issued detailed guidelines for the devolution and better utilization of funds by Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs); for 14 key departments whose function and functionaries are transferred to them already.

ASKED: New Delhi has asked CBI to probe the multi-crore Indian Air Force land scam in Srinagar. The Defense Ministry has found 70 adhoc NOC’s issued by Defense Estate Organization to private realtors violating defense land norms, which included land located in the vicinity of Srinagar’s air base.

IMPRISONED: Vinod Kumar, a Manager in IRCON, was awarded one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 by the designated court after he was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a local contractor in Banihal.

APPOINTED: Senior Kashmir cadre IAS officer ParvezDewan was appointed as Secretary, Ministry for Overseas Indian Affairs. Not many IAS officers have managed to occupy this post.

CONVICTED: Bilal Ahmed Dar is sentenced a concurrent imprisonment of five and seven years and is asked to pay a fine of Rs 2000. Dar is convicted for kidnapping and raping a girl.

DISPOSED: High Court disposed off a PIL seeking action against writer Arundhati Roy for her remarks advocating the right to self determination forJ&K. The PIL was filed by a Kashmiri Pandit organization based in Jammu and Delhi.

DISQUALIFIED: BJP disqualified six MLAs from membership to the legislative assembly for indulging in cross voting in April 13thLegislative Council elections in favor of NC and Congress. BJP has notified itwith Mohammed Akbar Lone; the Speaker and the Houseis awaiting his decision.

CONVICTED: Baba Kali Das and his wife RekhaKumari are awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 each for killing Baldev Singh, son of SantRam, over an old enmity. 50 percent of the fine will be paid to the next kin of the deceased.

ACCEPTED: Press Council of India has accepted Omar Abdullah’s explanation of suspending the newspaper publication and cancelling curfew passes of journalists and non journalist in 2010 unrest. Omar in his response has stated the government was constrained to impose restrictions in the state which hampered the publication of newspapers as well.

ARRESTED: Police arrested two CRPF personnel, the third one escaped, for harassing a woman in HabbaKadal. The duo is lodged in the ShaheedGunj police station however no proper complaint was filed. CRPF says the allegation is false.

RECORDED: A City court has reserved its orders in an application challenging R K Bhat, CBI counsel’s appointment in Shopian rape and double murder case and will be announced on December 8.

PRODUCED: Ikhwani Papa  Kishtwari was produced in Pulwama court under tight security in two murder cases. He is charged of killing 150 civilians during counter-insurgent operation.

INVESTIGATED: Income Tax department has asked Sham Sharma and Raman Kumar Gupta, owners of Hotel Atrium, Sawatik and Samson Hotel and Bali resort in Katrato make the exact disclosure of their properties. The investigation will take place under section 142 A of Income Tax Act which empowers IT officers to assess and reassess any unrecorded investment.

MURDERED: The  family  and locals of Sopore allege thatMushtaq Ahmed Sofi, a forest guard was a murdered and they ask for identification of killers and probe into the matter. A bullet injury was found in Sofi’s abdomen. A FIR No. 77/2011 under Section 302 RPC is registered and investigation is on.

APPEALED: Family of Nizamud din Wani, 11, of Budgam who went missing from Darululoom Sendwa. UP from October 5 has urged state government to appeal to the UP’s government and find him. The family has filed FIR in UP but nothing substantial has come up yet.
