The police rescued four bovine animals and arrested a smuggler Sher Din, resident of Kallar, Rajouri. Police had intercepted the animals when smuggler tried to avoid police naka and started moving on foot from the river side. A case has been registered against him. The Tata mobile driver escaped with the vehicle on seeing police.
Mohd Akram, 22, committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Thuroo, Arnus, Reasi. He was spotted hanging by the family members who shifted him to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Cause of suicide is not ascertained yet while police have registered a case in this connection for further investigations.
Dev Raj, 23, resident of village Treva, Arnia and Gulzar Singh, 35, a resident of district Kathua have ended their lives by consuming some poisonous substance at their respective residences. Both were shifted to hospitals but were critical. Cases under relevant sections have been registered at police station concerned and investigation started to ascertain the reasons behind such extreme steps.
Army rescued nine passengers when their vehicle was struck by a torrential avalanche in Kupwara. The passengers, including women and children, were trapped under 10 feet of snow when their vehicle was travelling from Tangdhar to Kupwara. Army said it was the third rescue operation undertaken by the Army in the last six days.
Body of a 60 year old unidentified male body was recovered near Ram Lila Ground in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. On getting information, police team from Trikuta Nagar police station rushed to the spot and shifted the body to mortuary of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for identification. Police have taken the cognizance in this regard.
Police have arrested Ghulam Mohammad Hazam for killing his wife, Rahima Begum, in Chirach, Banihal. Hazam had claimed that Begum was killed in a bear attack at her native place. He had also admitted himself in a hospital at Banihal claiming that he was also injured in the attack. Sensing some foul play, police registered a case in this regard and started investigations. During the course of investigations, the husband of the victim confessed that he has murdered his wife as she was not allowing him to perform second marriage. A case under FIR number 22/14 under Section 302 RPC registered at Banihal police station.
Police have arrested Kamal Sharma, Sanjay Kumar, Mahesh Kumar, Ram Kumar and Vijay Sharma five gamblers along with Rs 73,000 stake money from Satenni, Udhampur. The gamblers were arrested while playing cards on the spot. A case under Section 13 Gambling Act has been registered at Udhampur police station and investigation started.
A young woman was gang-raped by the Pandit Rajesh Kumar of Rehan village and his two associates Baldev Raj and Om Parkash during a marriage function at Saranukote village, Rajouri. The woman along with her family members went to Rajouri Thana and lodged an FIR No. 185/2014 under Sections 376/342 RPC against them for committing sexual assault on her. All the three accused have gone underground after incident.
The police have booked an Army man Sanjay Kumar and his brother, Rajiv Kumar on the charge of rape and cheating a 19-year-old girl hailing from Kalal Kas village, Rajouri. Police have registered a case under relevant sections. The Army personnel solemnized secret marriage with girl and sexually exploited her when he had come on leave to the village. Then he took her to Jammu and managed divorce from a court by taking her signature by default on papers and asked to stay at home with her brother as she was now his wife legally. The parents of the boys also tried to convince her and she was also raped by elder brother. Sanjay went to his battalion somewhere in Punjab.
A villager, Parshotam Lal, chopped-off an arm of his elder brother 48-year-old Harbans Lal with a sharp edged weapon after a tiff between the two, at home in Thannamandi, Rajouri. Later, he escaped. The injured was rushed to Rajouri Hospital and then referred to GMC hospital Jammu. The police registered a case in this connection and arrested the accused brother from a hideout.
Bilal Ahmad Bhat, son of Sonaullah Bhat of Kunzar in North Kashmir’s Baramullah district was arrested by Army in Mamoosa area of Pattan. His family said Bilal has no links with anyone and that he has been falsely implicated. Accompanied with a dozen locals, the family shouted slogans against Police’s SOG and Army. Earlier, the family had refuted the claims of forces that Bilal was a militant.
