SRINAGAR: The night temperature showed a downward trend in Ladakh and Kashmir valley even as the sun shone during the day giving some relief to the people from the intense cold.

Kargil remained the coldest place in the valley with a low of minus 11.4 degrees Celsius.  Leh in its neighbourhood recorded a minimum temperature of minus 9.6 degrees Celsius.

The twin resorts of Gulmarg and Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5.6 and minus four, respectively, while Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus two degrees Celsius, met office said.

Qazigund recorded a low of minus 2.2, Kokernag (minus 1.8) and Kupwara (minus 2.5).

Meanwhile, one-way traffic was plying smoothly along the 300-km Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface road linking Kashmir with rest of the world.

Srinagar-bound vehicles left Jammu this morning and traffic was moving smoothly, a spokesperson of the traffic department said.

Keeping in view the condition of the road, especially between Jawahar Tunnel and Ramban, coupled with narrow width at some places, only one-way traffic is feasible on the highway, the spokesman said.
