DODA

Hours after the senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr Nirmal Singh said that Rs 3600 crore is “sufficient” to rebuild the damaged infrastructure here, the statement evoked severe criticism across the mainstream parties.

Singh had said that Rs 3600 crore was sufficient for rehabilitation of flood victims and that as per the government figures, the amount is sufficient.

The first to react was the PDP’s R&B Minister Syed Altaf Bukhari who said that he was shocked to see such a statement of his cabinet colleague.

“Instead of adhering to Mufti Saheb’s vision of togetherness and equal opportunities, it seems our fellow colleagues are bogged down on issues of derived importance. I would request my Honb’le colleagues in the cabinet to stick to and implement Mufti Saheb’s agenda of peace, political stability and the development rather than crying hoarse on issues of secondary importance,” the Minister for Public Works remarked.

CPI (M) member Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said that the government seems hell-bent to rub salt on wounds of flood affected people in the state.

In a statement issued here, Tarigami said that the tardy rehabilitation of flood victims coupled with administrative inertia on disbursement of relief cheques has added to the miseries of people who lost everything in the devastating deluge of September 2014. “The deputy chief minister’s bewildering statement has come as a shock and one fails to understand who is lying and who is speaking truth. Rs 3600 Crores as is proposed by the deputy chief minister reflects non seriousness of this dispensation which is yet to understand the quantum of devastation wrecked by the September floods,” Tarigami said.

The deputy chief minister had also termed the Rs 44, 000 crore relief package by previous NC-Congress government as ‘just an announcement”. It was made in air and no ground work was done. It could not be substantiated. The previous NC-Congress government had submitted Rs 44,000 crore figures without doing any ground work. It was just an announcement by them before polls,” Dr Singh as per reports had said.

The state Congress chief GA Mir also took a dig at the present government saying that it has become evident now that how much the present government is serious in mitigating the peoples’ sufferings in the state.
