As non-local students are on way to their respective homes after they skipped their semester exams, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in J&K High Court.
The PIL on “NIT Hazratbal situation” is being heard by a division bench which includes J&K HC chief justice N Paul Vasanthakumar.
The PIL has been filed by Hari Om. Om was shown door by right wing Hindu nationalist, BJP, after his “anti-party activities” came to fore.
He is being represented by Adv Ravinder Sharma. Sharma is Congress confidant and has served as Additional Advocate General in Omar Abdullah led NC-Congress coalition government in J&K.
The PIL argues:
(1) Shifting of NIT from Srinagar to any other part of India/ replacement of faculty;
(2) Punishment to the Jammu and Kashmir Police officials involved in “brutal lathi charge” on the non-local students of NIT and failure to provide an environment of safety and security.
