SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Friday that there has been no increase in electricity tariffs in Jammu and Kashmir since December 2023, stating that billing practices remain rule-based and non-arbitrary.
Replying to a question from Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri during Question Hour of the ongoing Budget Session, the Chief Minister said consumers in metered areas are billed strictly on actual electricity consumption. In non-metered areas, he said, charges are levied on a flat-rate basis in line with the agreed load.
Responding to a supplementary on tariff rationalisation, Abdullah said tariff determination lies with the regulator, the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission, and is fixed according to its prescribed parameters.
He further informed the House that Aggregate Technical and Commercial (ATC) losses are not passed on to consumers.
