North Kashmir: Seven Pumps Seized in Crackdown on Illegal Sand Extraction

   

SRINAGAR: Police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district seized seven sand-dredging pumps during a special operation against illegal sand extraction in the Khawjabagh area on Saturday, officials said.

The seized equipment was recovered during the operation, following which legal proceedings were initiated in coordination with the Mining Department under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act.

In a separate action, police intercepted two tippers during naka checking and patrolling in the Delina area. The vehicles, bearing registration numbers JK08C-2242 and JK13-7604, were found operating in violation of the MMDR Act.

Necessary action was taken against the vehicles under the relevant provisions, after which they were released.

Police said the operations were part of efforts to prevent illegal mining and enforce regulations governing mineral extraction in the district.
