Independent legislator and Awami Itihad Party Chairperson MLA Langate Engineer Rashid Wednesday lambasted J&K State Government for trying to “hide the incompetence and blame those who are highlighting the truth”.

A party statement said, “The state Government was not able to tackle the recent situation arising out of lashing rains and is unnecessarily targeting media which reported truth. The real dent to tourism sector is lent by the State Government by giving unwise statements and saying that it will replace Terrorism with tourism,” said Rashid commenting on the Media walkout in protest against BJP Minister Sukhnandan’s statement that Media overhyped the Flood situation leading to downslide in tourism today at SKICC.

“State Government rather than recognizing the realities on ground with reference to political issues of Kashmir is indulging in foolish talk which won’t yield any positive dividends,” he said.

He observed, “As the cosmetic measures of State Government have failed to provide any relief to flood hit people of Kashmir resorting to futile blame game against media highlighting this pain has become Government’s only response.”

Rashid revealed that Chowdhary Sukhnand’s remarks reflect the BJP mindset towards the Kashmiris and by blaming the media that he was trying to downplay the huge damages caused by floods and also trying to find the silly excuse to defend central government’s cunning failure to provide reasonable package to flood hit victims. He added, “How come can government expect tourists to come Kashmir when on one side it claims replacing terrorism with tourism but on other hand continuing the state terrorism by killing two innocent youths in Tral in cold blooded murder.”

He questioned BJP minister that rather than blaming media for sensationalizing floods, “he should ask Narendra Modi, who internationalized Kashmir floods in United Nations?”
